Like all pests, mosquitoes and ticks are drawn to sources of food, water, and shelter.
Mosquitoes are primarily attracted by standing water they use as breeding grounds and
dense vegetation that provides plentiful hiding spots. Mosquito control is necessary in high
-risk areas to keep populations from getting out of control.
Ticks also love to hide out in dense vegetation. They prefer moist, shady areas and lie in
wait until a tempting target passes by. Ticks seek out a host through a process known as
questing, where they climb up vegetation and hold on with their back legs, keeping their
front legs extended and waiting to latch onto a passing host.
These common pests are more than just a nuisance. They pose a potential health threat as
both are known to carry a variety of diseases. A tick or mosquito can pass along an
infection to humans and pets through their bite. Most cases of pest-borne illnesses are
treatable, but some diseases can cause serious complications and even
death.
